A background of the Education Foundation Dreams
and Schemes
Education Foundation is an independent not-for-profit organization
that supports and promotes excellent practice in public schools.
Education Foundation is solely funded through public, corporate
and philanthropic donations. Objectives of Education Foundation
are to:
- stimulate new thinking about and commitment to public education.
- strengthen and support creative learning opportunities for
young people in primary and secondary public schools, particularly
those experiencing social, educational or economic hardship.
Education Foundation has a proven track record of providing special
educational opportunities to young people in public schools. The Dreams
and Schemes Awards is an exciting initiative of the Education Foundation
and the Department of Education, Employment and Training (DEET) Science
in Schools Strategy for the Middle Years. It is also proudly supported
by the Triton
Foundation. The Dreams and Schemes Project aims to identify and
encourage students to become innovators and inventors, by rewarding
ideas that have the potential to be developed for the benefit of the
wider community.
The Dreams and Schemes Project supports teachers by providing an
opportunity to participate in a learning experience that can encourage,
excite and engage students in Science. The Dreams and Schemes project
underpins the aims of the Science in Schools Strategy, which are
to improve teaching and learning experiences, to increase students
levels of scientific literacy and to encourage students to think
about a career in Science and Technology.
Major prize winners of the Dreams & Schemes Awards will have
the opportunity to work with eminent Science heroes to develop their
scientific ideas. All students who participate in the project will
have the opportunity to learn more about the connections between
Science and people, reflect on scientific developments and their
impact on the environment, the individual and society.
The Dreams and Schemes Awards Project is supported by a website
with curriculum materials for teachers to assist implementation
of the project in their classroom.
